Here's a lengthy posting on The Identity Corner which collects a long series of criticisms of OpenID. They include phishing, cross-site scripting, privacy, and, naturally, patents. "Even if one were to take the position that the abovementioned patents are pre-dated by tons of prior art and/or are 'obvious to those of ordinary skill in the art,' that may hardly be reassuring for sites that establish themselves as OpenID providers or consumers - they risk being presented at any time in the future with litigation threat for patent infringement." It's worth noting that the author represents a company selling an identity management solution of its own.
