BerkleyDB ("BDB") is an embedded database
library that can be used with
C, C++, Java,
Perl,
PHP,
Python,
Ruby, Smalltalk, Tcl
and many other programming languages.
Some early development was sponsored by Netscape, and this led to the creation Sleepycat Software, Inc.,
who were purchased by
Oracle in
2006.
The software is
dual licensed
under the Sleepycat Public License, an
OSI certifiedopen source
license, and a proprietary
commercial license.
